Hepatitis B
This is a viral infection that causes ongoing damage to the liver.
The virus is transmitted through infected blood, oral and anal contact and faeces.
It is the only STD that you can be vaccinated against
Symptoms: fever, nausea, tiredness, jaundice, muscle weakness, weight loss
The diagnosis is confirmed by a blood test.
Treatment: bed rest, no alcohol and a low fat diet. Drug treatment may be indicated.
