Summary:
Sexual aversion is a phobia about sexual activity or the thought of sexual activity. This is more than absence of desire, because even though the person may experience desire, sexual contact is feared and induces severe dread, and if the woman attempts or even thinks about attempting a sexual contact, symptoms ranging from intense fear to a full blown panic attack may occur.
Sexual aversion may be focused on the act of intercourse or related activity or anything to do with sex such as genitals or body fluids, and odours.

Sexual aversion usually occurs in adults between ages 29 and 40, and occurs more among women than men. Some women with sexual aversion have a low frequency of sexual activity, others avoid sexual relationships because they are unable to participate because of their intense anxiety reactions, but many go through the motions of sex while clenching their teeth, hating every moment of it.

In women with sexual aversion disorder some have the desire for sexual contact but are unable or unwilling to initiate or respond due to the phobic aversion and anxiety or panic attacks when confronting sexual activity.

Sexual phobia or aversion is a fear reaction to sex or some aspect of sex and requires special treatment. If you suspect that you or your partner has sexual aversion you should get the help of a sex therapist, psychiatrist or psychologist who is familiar with sexual problems [1].
