Dyspareunia (Painful Intercourse)

Dyspareunia in women
Superficial - Refers to pain at the entrance of the vagina.
caused by:
- infections such as thrush and herpes
- skin conditions in the vulva eg. eczema, herpes
- or a painful scar in the tissues
- vaginismus [ involuntary contraction of the muscles of the outer third of the vagina that make penetration painful or impossible
caused by:
- chronic inflammation in the pelvis
- cyst or tumour of the ovary
- mass in the tube (tubal pregnancy)
This is rare in men
caused by:
- Genital infection
- Phimosis
- Prostatitis
- Peyronie's disease
- Cystitis
