Spermicide
A spermicide is a method of contraception which is a chemical which destroys the sperm.
It is available in the form of a cream/foaming jelly/pessary placed in the vagina before intercourse.
Spermicides containing the chemical nonxynol-9 and this immobilises the sperm so that they are not able to fertilize the ovum [egg]. This method is not recommended on it's own as it is not a very effective contraceptive, but is recommended for use with a diaphragm cap and for insertion into the vagina when the male partner uses a condom, as added protection.
Spermicides may cause irritation or a rash to one or both partners, and should then be discontinued.
